Capiz is a translucent shell that comes from marine mollusk a.k.a windowpane oyster. The name capiz is also a geographical location - a province in Philippines where these were originally found.
This is how they are found along the shallow waters.. they are gently collected, cleaned, polished, and sold in bulk. Each shell breaks into two halves and can be cut into any shape.
Capiz shells are ideal for lighting as it is semi-transparent, allowing light to glow through them. It also has a distinctive texture which enables light to reflect beautifully. Their natural color is white and they can be dyed to any color.
They can also be made to look like a lotus flower..
